Murmurings from the Match Room

Murmurings from the Matchroom
Sunday 18th June

This was a busy weekend of golf with Haig Cup Matches and others playing a Medford on Saturday followed by the the first round of The Du Maurier Mixed Canadian Foursomes played on Sunday. Three weeks with very little rain has made a world of difference to our course. We are not exactly back to Summer conditions but there is a bit of run out there as long as you can keep to the fairways. Down hill putts are scary.

Congratulations to our Sloan team who managed a 4 to 2 win over Totaradale on Sunday 11 June. Once again they are fighting it out for top honours in this competition.

Congratulations also, to those still alive in The Haig. Some exceptional golf was played on Saturday. This was very humbling for those of us on the receiving end. Results will be published elsewhere.
Saturday's Men's Results
Medford Format- Nett for holes 1 to 9 less Stableford for holes 10 to 18.
1. John Inglis 14
2. Ivor Hawker 15 on c/b
3. Tony Derriman 15 on c/b Missing the prize cut was Rob Vincent, also on 15
There were nine in all with three players having to share The Jackpot. As a result, no-one went home with enough to pay the mortgage off their house.
James Campion on 4 and 11, Brent Thomson on 11 and 17, Darryl Graham on 7 and 17, then the following who could only manage one each. Kevin Riddle on 4, Mike Hay on 4 and Rob Vincent on 4.
Closest to the Pin
Ladies Shona Johnson
Men Mike Hay
With half the field playing matches there was no draw for the Nett Eagle. We can't have players conceding 10 metre putts.
Sunday's Results
As the competition involves the best two rounds of three, the competition is still wide open. The mixed pairings off to a good start were: Joyce and Richard Bullock Nett 69, Jane and Strachan Adams 71.6, Shirley and Owen Drummond 72.4, Shirley and Bob Winter 73, Jocelyn and Brent Thomson 73.6, Astrid and Peter Tudberry 73.6 with Ian Rowling and Donna Mitchell on 74.8. It is good to see that a few marriages will still be intact.
Coming Up
Wed. 21 June Open Mixed Vets at Motueka. Be there no later than 10am for a 10.30 start.
Thurs. 22 June and Frid. 23 June A fair bit of rain by the look of it. Turn up on Wednesday if you want some dry weather golf. With the ladies playing pennants on Thursday, let's hope the forecast is faulty.
Sat. 24 June Mug Medal, Shootout and Hudson Cup. Ladies play an Ecclectic.
Sun. 25 June Round 2 of the Du Maurier
On the Lighter Side
Two men were playing behind two women who were spending a lot of time chatting and holding them up. Sam decided to go up and tell the women to either speed up or let them play through. He got within 100 metres before coming back. “I can't speak to them,” said Sam. “One of the women is my wife and the other my mistress.”
“That's OK,” said Jack, I'll go and speak to them.” He got to within 100 metres before turning back as well. “That's a coincidence,” he said on his return. “ I can't speak to them either.”
